Applepelt had woken up bright and early that morning; she'd joined the dawn patrol with chipper spirits while everyone else still seemed to be dragging themselves out of sleep, and even had the energy to hunt after they had finished surveying the borders!
Now, she was strolling back in to camp with a happy bounce in her step and several pieces of fresh-kill. A squirrel or two, some mice, a magpie and starling...
She couldn't wait for everyone else to start waking up!

Silverstar was already awake by the time Applepelt had returned, and was stretching in the mild sunlight that was peeking into camp. The silver-furred she-cat greeted the pale cat with a small smile, and, seeing that no one else was awake, took her breakfast and settled down beside her den to eat.
"Applepelt," she meowed between bites of squirrel. "Are the borders secure?"

Naturally, Applepelt was pleased that Silverstar had taken a piece of the fresh-kill she'd worked so hard to hunt. She opted to pick out a plump mouse for herself before joining her leader.
"Mhm!" she purred, flicking her tail happily. "All the borders were perfect this morning!"

"Wonderful." the leader purred in response. Her ears twitched slightly, and she looked up.
A ginger tom stared down at her, amber eyes glinting with amusement. "You've only just woken, Silverstar, and already worrying about the Clan."
Silverstar raised her head so her muzzle touched his lightly in greeting. "It's my job. I was just asking Applepelt here how the borders were. I'd like to be sure that my Clan is safe." she said with an amused tone.
Goldheart nodded, padding off. He returned with a chaffinch, and joined the three.

Tail flicking cheerfully, Applepelt purred at Goldheart's arrival. Once he had settled in with them, however, the young she-cat was all but wriggling in her place.
"Where were you this morning, Goldheart?" she asked teasingly. "You normally don't miss dawn patrol! Did StarClan send you some good dreams?"

Goldheart immediately glanced away shamefully. "Well, I would certainly say so." he chuckled, tearing into the chaffinch at his paws. No sooner than he had tore the skin away, did he spit out what he'd eaten and reel back in disgust.
Three maggots had taken up residence in his meal. With a sniff of disappointment, he cleared away the chaffinch and snatched a mouse, returned.
"Well, that wasn't exactly pleasant." Silverstar commented. "We may need to check the rest of the fresh-kill."

Applepelt flinched, and then recoiled at the sight of the wriggling worms.
Once they were gone, however, the she-cat tried to calm herself down, and made it a point to smooth out her pelt, which had begun to fluff out in her surprise.
"I didn't hunt that," she murmured with a frown. "Actually, I don't know who brought it... I didn't see anyone on the dawn patrol hunt a chaffinch this morning."

"I didn't bring that in, either." Goldheart growled.
Silverstar tilted her head. "If no one brought it, how did it get here?" she asked to no one in particular. Shaking her head. "Well, then. On another note, I think its about time we head our separate ways."
Standing up, she bid her mate and Applepelt goodbye, and trotted off into the forest to think; she'd been thinking a lot lately, and Goldheart in particular didn't think it could possibly be good for her.

For a time, Applepelt was quiet, tilting her head and staring after Silverstar with evident worry in her eyes.
Eventually, she refocused on Goldheart, and lightly nudged him with the tip of her tail so as to grab his attention.
"Is she okay?" she asked quietly.

Goldheart cast his eyes downward. "She's been thinking a lot lately. Maybe a little too much than is good for her." he sighed, finishing the remainders of his mouse and clearing away the carcass.
The tom turned, his yellow gaze piercing into Applepelt's own eyes. "If Silverstar starts to seem a little...odd, let me know." he said seriously.
((OOC: I have no idea where to take this, except that Silverstar overthinks things, a lot.))

Applepelt cocked her head a bit, looking like she didn't quite understand what Goldheart meant, but on the inside, the gears were already turning.
She hopped to her feet, smiling and nodding at the tom, but then she was padding briskly out of camp, tail arced high above her back as she went.
Maybe she could find out what was bothering Silverstar!

Stormpaw huffed as he padded from his den into the camp clearing. A few cats seemed to be roaming around, but the place was mostly empty. How terribly boring, Stormpaw thought grumpily. Completely oblivious to the mild commotion occuring in front of him, he stepped forward to drag a large thrush from the fresh-kill pile, settled down under the shade of the trees, and sank his teeth into the bird's skin.
With a Yelch! and a hiss of disgust, he spat the mouthful back out, accompanied with numerous crawly creatures. Looking back down at the "fresh-kill", he could see the bird's insides were churning with the likes of them.
"This is crow-food!" He spat, attempting to push the revulsion down his throat. "Was there no fresh hunting party this morning!?"

Voidheart slowly opened his eyes, reluctant to leave the blissful world of sleep. He could still smell traces of his mother's scent in his nest, from the dream he had. He sighed. He missed her dreadfully. He slowly stretched his limbs to full length and flipped onto his back. He looked up at the den's roof. He could hear voices in the clearing. He twitched his tail, debating whether he should join his clanmates.
Sighing again he flipped onto his paws and left the den. Moss still clung to his fur. He saw Applepelt leaving the camp. He twitchedhis ears somewhat disappointed. His disappointment was replaced by disgust when he smelled rotting flesh. He wrinkled his nose. "What is crowfood doing in the camp?"

Stormpaw pushed the rotten meat away, his face contorted with disgust, just as Voidheart, his mentor, slipped from his den.
"I don't know," Stormpaw grumbled in response, "but please let's go find something reasonable to eat." He nagged, putting great emphasis on the please. "I'm starving". He didn't care that fresh-kill wasn't to be eaten on hunting patrol. It wasn't his fault there was no food in the camp. And it's not like Silverstar was nearby to hear it.

Voidheart shook the moss from his fur. "Fine, but bury that first." He said, wrinkling his nose. The rotten meat and the dream he had about his mother putting him in a bad mood. He hoped some fresh air out in the forest would make him feel better. He flicked his tail. "Hurry up, we don't have all day." He headed toward the camp entrance.

Refusing to pick the dead thrush up again with his teeth, he quickly shoved it over to the dirtplace with his paw. He wrinkled his nose unpleasantly - the place stank. He quickly dug a little hole and dumped the rotten bird in, before whipping around and racing after Voidheart, who was by now already through the tunnel and into the forest.
"Where are we going?" Stormpaw questioned, trotting alongside his mentor to keep pace.

Voidheart paused for a moment. He hadn't thought about where he was going, he was just following his paws. He tasted the air , looking thoughtful. "Let's find something to eat and then do some training by sunningrocks. I'm sick of getting sand in my fur at the training hollow." Voidheart turned his red eyes onto his apprentice. "And then maybe a little patroling. Maybe we'll find a Riverclan cat to chase." He chuckled and flexed his claws.

Stormpaw heaved a sigh of relief. "Well, thank Starclan for that. I could eat the whole forest!" He snickered. This promised to be a fine day. There was nothing better than unsheathing your claws on a full belly and finishing it off with a doze in the sun - or that was his view of the day anyway. "Can you teach how to slice open a cat's belly?" He grinned enthusiastically and somewhat more morbidly than the reality.

Voidheart narrowed his eyes. "As tempting as it is, no. " Voidheart flicked his tail. "Silverstar would have my pelt!" Voidheart bounded further into the forest toward the river. "Come on Stormpaw."
