As Owlpaw followed his mentor, he wondered excitedly and with some nervousness what they were going to do.
Owlpaw thought about the question his mentor had posed. "I-I don't think so."

"Well," Oceanbell went on, pausing for a few seconds to make up her mind on where to take her apprentice. Maybe a little closer to Carrionplace... "Why don't you refresh my memory. Tell me what you know."

Shadepaw stretched and smacked his lips. He blinked the sleep out of his eyes as he exited the den. Once outside he quickly made his way to the fresh-kill pile, hoping to fill his ever-hungry stomach. A particularly large mouse caught his eye and he snapped it up, carrying it to the edge of the camp. He set it down and sat down beside it, ready to sink his teeth into it's savory meat.

"Ummm..." Owlpaw flattened his ears, a little embarrassed. "The clan comes first..."
--- Fishtail returned to camp, three frogs hung from his jaws. He quickly dropped the prey into the freshkill pile and then bounded over to his favorite rock. He climbed on top and flopped onto his back, his paws wriggling in the air.

Shadepaw slowly took a bite of the mouse, his eyes scanning the camp. He smiled with satisfaction as the food slipped down his throat. After a couple more bites he closed his eyes. His ears rotated, keeping track of everything going on in the camp.

The she-cat froze.
Her ears twitched.
Then she turned to acknowledge Owlpaw with utterly disbelieving eyes.
"Is that it?" she spat, leering at her apprentice. "Come on! That can't be the only thing I've drilled in to you!"
Wait. Was it? How long had Owlpaw been her apprentice, now? Like... half a moon or something...?
"...Maybe it is the only thing I've drilled in to you," she muttered in a significantly quieter tone. Then, with a sigh, she beckoned Owlpaw to her side. "Alright. Well... what do you want to learn first?" The small clearing they had stopped in seemed better a place to practice than any.

Owlpaw flattened his ears, surprised by Oceanbell's reaction. He felt his stomach tighten with anger, but he pushed it away by taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. He realized Oceanbell was still talking and struggled to catch what she was saying. "... learn first?" was all he remembered hearing.
Owlpaw lifted his ears and though only for a moment. "I want to learn to fight."
--- Fishtail soon fell asleep, he snored loudly and his paws twitched.

Shadepaw heard his mentor start snoring. His eyes shot open and he ripped apart the rest of the mouse in a hurry. When it was all down his throat he hopped up and bounded for the camp entrance. He could be the best apprentice the clan had ever known, and he was going to prove it. Without help from a mentor.

Fishtail dreamt of frogs. In his dream he leaped through the marshes with his frog bretheren, enjoying the wind across his slimy rubbery skin. He quickly realized he was passing most of the frogs around him, so he hopped faster and faster, soon he was a head of all the rest. He ribbited with pride and went faster still. The ground became a blur and before he realized it, it disappeared. He was falling and there was no escape.
Fishtail jerked awake with a yowl, just as he landed with a thump on the ground, having rolled off his rock. Fishtail sat up and yawned. He blinked his eyes. The last remnants of his froggy dream leaving his mind.

Shadepaw looked around, hoping to spot some prey running about. When he saw nothing he scented the air. He could pick out no specific scents. With a huff of disappointment he adjusted his path toward Thunderclan territory, hoping to find a bird or mouse that wandered away from the trees.

Fishtail stretched and yawned again. He made sure to stretch every leg and toe. When he was done he shook himself vigorously. Now, where's that apprentice! He looked around the clearing, Shadepaw wasn't anywhere her could see. So, Fishtail bounded over to the apprentice's den. He stuck his head in "Shadepaw?" The apprentice wasn't there either. "Maybe he's helping the elders." But only the elders were in the elder's den. They were all fast asleep so Fishtail decided to leave them be.
He returned to the clearing and tasted the air, he couldn't distinguish Shadepaw's scent from any of the others. Fishtail checked the entrance of the camp. He could just make out Shadepaw's scent, it was fresh. "Maybe he went to train on his own."
Fishtail wriggled his tail, this would be a good time to watch Shadepaw without him knowing and get a good idea of his skill level. Fishtail bounded into the forest, barely containing his excitement.

Shadepaw scented the air again, but was still unable to pick out a scent. He grunted, then stopped. The soft sound of rustling grass reached his ears. His eyes sought out the source of the sound and qui kly found the mouse. He smiled as he crouched low? The wind blew in his face as he advanced on the small creature, absolutely silent. The mouse never looked up from plotted course. It met a swift end when Shadepaw pounced on it and drove his teeth harshly into its neck.

Once Fishtail was away from the paths often used by all the members of the clan, following Shadepaw's scent was much easier and he made quick time. Fishtail paused when he heard a sound. He crept forward, under a bush and looked around. He saw Shadepaw with a mouse. Fishtail felt a little proud for his apprentice. He crouched and continued to watch Shadepaw.

Shadepaw proudly buried the mouse and looked around for more prey. He frowned when he was unable to pick up anything. He took a couple steps toward the Thunderpath then stopped and turned the opposite direction. His indecision tore at him. He knew he had to choose a direction and get more fresh-kill but he couldn't seem to make up his mind.

Fishtail watched the apprentice, Shadepaw seemed confused. Fishtail tilted his head, wandering what the apprentice was thinking

Shadepaw decided to head back in the direction of camp. He started that way, his ears and eyes searching for signs of possible fresh-kill.

Fishtail waited until Shadepaw was out of sight and then, quickly but quietly left the cover of the bush. He followed his apprentice on silent paws.

Shadepaw stopped, hearing a slight rustle. He turned in Fishtail's direction, his eyes scanning the brush. Upon seeing nothing he grunted and turned back around.

Fishtail barely ducked behind a tree in time. He had been too focused on his paws to notice Shadepaw's suspicion. Fishtail waited for Shadepaw to continue before leaving the trees cover.

Shadepaw continued walking for a while longer then sighed. He turned toward where he caught the mouse, intending to unbury it and give up.
