Yes, these are necessary. And yes, it is mandatory you include these for every piece of work you put up. EVERY WORK WITHOUT A RATING WILL BE DELETED BY A MOD.
Here are the basic ratings that we will use:
K--Suitable for all ages
T--Content may be questionable or suggestive of more mature themes; triggers may be present
M--Content is entirely unsuited to those younger than 16 years; triggers may be present
They're pretty self-explanatory, really. Just match your work up with the correct rating, and all's well that ends well. If your work has a scene in it or plotline or some such that you aren't too sure would fit in one rating category or another, then just put the higher rating to be safe, and make note of it someplace (example, "Rated M to be safe" )
